Flipkart Group CEO Binny Bansal Steps Down After Allegation Of Serious Personal Misconduct

Flipkart Group Chief Executive Officer Binny Bansal quit following an investigation into alleged “serious personal misconduct” even as he denied the allegation.
Image result for binny bansal resigns
“His decision follows an independent investigation done on behalf of Flipkart and Walmart into an allegation of serious personal misconduct,” Walmart Inc. said in a press statement. “He strongly denies the allegation. Nevertheless, we had a responsibility to ensure the investigation was deliberate and thorough.”
Walmart said while the investigation “did not find evidence to corroborate the complainant’s assertions against Bansal, it did reveal other lapses in judgement, particularly a lack of transparency, related to how Binny responded to the situation. Because of this, we have accepted his decision to resign.”
The statement didn’t give details of the allegations against Bansal.
Kalyan Krishnamurthy will continue as the CEO of Flipkart, which will now include Myntra and Jabong, Walmart said. Ananth Narayanan will continue as the CEO of Myntra and Jabong and will report to Krishnamurthy.
Bansal’s resignation marks the exit of co-founders from India’s largest online retailer. Sachin Bansal (not related to Binny) had exited the company they founded more than a decade ago after selling his stake to Walmart earlier this year.
This is a developing story.

Over 1 Cr consumers may lose LPG connection from December 1

The Central government has asked gas agencies like Bharatgas, HP Gas and Indane to complete the KYC of consumers who have not yet submitted Aadhaar or opted for 'Give it Up' scheme by 30 November. Those who have given up gas subsidy need to get the KYC done. Notably, a massive number of users are yet to go through the KYC exercise.

A large number of consumers had not done the KYC when government had started the process to link gas connections with bank account of consumers three years ago. These consumers couldn't get gas subsidy. Consumers whose annual income was above Rs 10 lakh also couldn't get the benefit.
According to the report, the government has said that KYC of those who have opted to give up subsidy will help eliminate ineligible consumers. This will improve the supply of cylinders to such consumers.
One crore gas consumers are yet to get the KYC done. Most of these are from states like Delhi, Uttar Pradesh and Maharashtra.
Last month, UIDAI had said beneficiaries can continue to withdraw LPG subsidy and other government payments using Aadhaar authentication from micro-ATMs at their doorstep.

Anil Kumble's startup brings AI to cricket, launches 'Power Bat'

The Power Bat can provide real-time data on a player's performance based on different parameters such as speed of the ball, twist on impact and quality of the shot.

Former India captain Anil Kumble's technology start-up Spektacom Technologies on Thursday launched the "Power Bat" -- a unique tool powered by Microsoft's Azure Cloud platform and its Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Internet of Things (IoT) services.
The Power Bat can provide real-time data on a player's performance based on different parameters such as speed of the ball on impact, twist on impact and quality of the shot.
Spektacom and Microsoft roped in Star India as the broadcasting partner to provide fans and viewers with a new way to engage with the sport.
"Our vision is to bring sports closer to fans through interesting ways of engagement using real-time sports analytics. At the same time, it is important that the technologies used are seamless and do not disrupt the game or obstruct the players," Anil Kumble said.
"With Microsoft, we have been able to create a secure and effective solution, and with Star India, we have a partner that can stimulate and excite fan engagement," Kumble added.
At the core of the technology is a light weight sticker which is stuck on the shoulder of the bat.
In a live match, as soon as the batsman hits the ball, data on different parameters are captured in a new unit of measurement titled Power Speks.
Microsoft's Azure Sphere, an operating system for IoT applications, ensures that the data is securely captured and processed.
Using advanced analytics and AI services on Azure, real-time insights are captured through the stump box and displayed via the broadcaster.
During practice or coaching, the same data can be viewed through a mobile app, Microsoft said.
"We're partnering with Spektacom to bring real-time insights and new experiences to cricket fans and players alike, completely changing the way they experience the sport," Peggy Johnson, Executive Vice President, Microsoft, told IANS.
"By leveraging Azure, its AI and IoT services, Spektacom can deliver details on player performance, which can be used in everything from scouting to training as well as improving the fan experience," she said.
Microsoft had been working closely with Spektacom to incubate and launch the product as part of its ScaleUp programme, designed to offer access to sales, marketing and technical support to Series A start-ups.
"We've already seen the impact that connected devices have had in other industries, and we believe that with the advancements in our AI and cloud services, this is just the beginning of what's possible for not only cricket, but all sports," Johnson said.

Ideas, Entrepreneurs And Investors

Many Entrepreneurs get frustrated when it seems that no financier is the startup space appreciates how valuable their idea is. They start thinking of themselves as the persecuted genius whose brilliance society has one again failed to recognize.

Ideas-entrepreneurs-and-investors
Most first time entrepreneurs are in love with their idea.
They feel it’s completely cool and that it’s going to change the world. This is partly because all they do all day long is think about their idea and how they can implement it.
They get completely obsessed about it and their world starts revolving around it. When they compare it with existing ideas, they invariably find that theirs is far superior – just like every mother feels her child is the best looking child in the world.
When they get ready to implement it in real life, they find they need money to convert their idea into action. They approach investors, and naively expect them to be as enthusiastic about their idea as they are.
They are sure that funders will get excited about how cool and innovative their idea is, and will line up to fund the, They get extremely disheartened and disappointed when investors don’t seem to hold their idea in the same high regard they do.
They get frustrated when it seems that no financier is the startup space appreciates how valuable their idea is. They start thinking of themselves as the persecuted genius whose brilliance society has one again failed to recognize. They complain loudly and frequently about how unsupportive and short-sighted Indian funders are, because they fail to understand the brilliance of what they are proposing.
This creates a big chasm between funders and founders, and we need to bridge this gap. The only way to do this is by understanding each other’s worldviews.
Founders need to learn to put themselves in the investor’s shoes. The truth is that investors are flooded by new pitches daily, which is why a lot of investors start feeling that ideas are a dime a dozen.
Most entrepreneurs have very little real life experience, and grossly underestimate the difficulties which they will encounter in running a startup. They have spent so much time in polishing their idea, that they think of it like a diamond.
They believe that everyone should be dazzled by its brilliance, and should be happy to throw money at them so they can bring it to fruition.
They can’t believe why investors are being so dumb – can’t they recognise the next Steve Jobs ? Don’t they see that this idea is going to help them invest in the next unicorn ? They believe that since their idea is so great, how hard would it be to implement it in real life , once they had the money which they required?
It’s not as if investors don’t value ideas – it’s just that we have learned the hard way that an idea by itself is worth very little. We know that the devil is in the details, and while it’s great to admire creative ideas when you read about them in a book, only someone who has actually slogged through running a startup understands how much blood, sweat, and tears need to be invested in order to make that dream come true.
This is the real challenge – to persevere and remain undefeated, no matter how many road blocks you encounter. Investors are very worried that most founders are not mature enough of handling these challenges.
Forcing entrepreneurs to pitch to many funders is actually a great screening tool in the startup ecosystem. An entrepreneur who gives up just because he can’t raise funding from the first few investors he pitches to is very likely not to be able to do a good job running a startup.
If he can’t handle rejections from investors, then he should accept the fact that he is not suited for the startup space.
Many founders shoot themselves in the foot because they are so secretive and paranoid about their ideas . They refuse to share it with others, as a result of which they don’t get high quality feedback. Most of the responses they get are from friends and family, who are obviously going to be very supportive, and say, “Yes, it’s a great idea! Anyone will be happy to fund it !” It’s only when they go out into the investor community do they realize how little an idea is worth.
This is why you need to be open, and start sharing your ideas, instead of hoarding them, so you can use the feedback you get it polish and improve it, so it becomes fundable.
Mature founders learn from the feedback they get from investors. No feedback at all is actually a loud message that they’re not excited by what you’re saying.
This maybe because they’ve heard it before, or because they think what you’re saying is not practical; or that it requires too much money; or they don’t think you have the capability of being able to pull this off. Now it’s upto you to prove them wrong!

How I Stopped Dreaming And Started Doing

The world needs dreamers and the world needs doers. But above all, the world needs dreamers who do." Sarah Ban Breathnach

Stop-Dreaming-and-Start-Doing

Let’s face it. We are all dreamers.
Some of us dream about a tropical paradise in the middle of a harsh winter and others dream about riches that can unshackle them from the miserable life they are trapped in.
However, only a chosen few among millions of dreamers get to realize their dreams. These are the dreamers who became doers and also probably got lucky along the way.
Why are some people destined to get what they dream about while most others cannot seem to make any progress?
While luck or the hand of God does indeed play a role, the path towards realizing your goals starts with a few small changes to the lifestyle that anyone can master.
Now that’s a bold statement to make.
But when I look back at the changes I made to my own life, I believe anyone can do what I did. Two years ago, I was just an average Joe with a better than average, comfortable 9 to 5 job in the Silicon Valley. I left my job and relocated to India, the country of my birth, and bootstrapped a business. I am still struggling to get it off the ground, but I have no regrets.
Two year ago, I stopped being a dreamer and became a doer and here are three things I did to make the switch.
1. I defined my dreams
Looking back at my own transition into an entrepreneur, I realized that the first step in the journey to achieve your goals is to paint a vivid picture of your goals.
If you have always dreamed of becoming a full-time scuba diving instructor in the Bahamas, you need to start thinking about how much money you will need to live in the Bahamas, what would it cost to become a licensed diver, how are other diving instructors promoting their business, and where will you learn to become a diving instructor?
I had a comfortable job and a good life in the beautiful San Francisco Bay Area. But something wasn’t just feeling right. I was always dreaming of running my own business and doing anything else seemed like a compromise. However, it seemed strange that most of my friends had similar dreams yet they remained chained to their regular jobs. I decided to stop dreaming and start working towards my dream.
Here is what I did.
I nailed down the details of what I dreamed about. If I were to start a business, what business would it be? How much money would I need to start the business? How will I get my first customer? Who are my competitors? What skills do I lack that will stop me from starting or running the business? These were just some of the questions that needed unambiguous answers.
Finding answers to these questions gave me a clear set of goals that did not seem like an impossible dream anymore. Clarity of thought helped me figure out what it took to achieve my dream and identify the gaps or hurdles that I needed to clear in pursuit of my dreams.
2. I changed my habits and learned to focus
Once you have given a concrete shape to your dream, the next step in your journey from being a dreamer to becoming a doer is to break down the goals into a series of incremental actions that will eventually add up to make a dent in the hurdles you may be facing.
Coming back to my own journey of becoming an entrepreneur, I worked on several small ticket items (seemingly disconnected) that came together to help me say goodbye to my 9 to 5 job.
Here are a few things I did.
I started reading books about successful entrepreneurs to help motivate myself.
I started saving up money aggressively by cutting down on frivolous expenses.
I was spending a lot of time using products that my ‘future competitors’ already had in the market just to understand how I could possibly do better.
I started dabbling in areas that I was uncomfortable in, i.e. coding and accounting.
I was doing all of this while still holding on to the reality of working in a 9 to 5 job. I had to make sacrifices and bring about changes in my habits and lifestyle in the interest of laying a solid foundation on which I wanted to build a new reality.
3. I treated setbacks as blessings
Getting what you want is not easy and that’s why most of us are trapped in an unpleasant reality. If I were to pinpoint a single trait that will help someone magically transform their dream into reality, it is resilience.
Life will throw curve balls at every turn. However, as long as you recognize that setbacks are actually blessings in disguise, you will move forward in your quest.
Here are a few things that happened as I was preparing to start my business.
I fell sick with a mystery illness that confounded every specialist physician that examined me! I was feeling listless and drained 24X7 and it was a nightmare to go through with the unending lists of tests and scans.
I did not let this setback stop me from working on my new habits or focusing on my dreams. In fact, I saw this set back as a sign from above that told me to focus on leading a healthy lifestyle. After all, what good can come out of realizing your dreams when you can no longer have the health to enjoy it?
Setbacks have now become a way of life! But they haven’t stopped me yet. When I mustered enough courage to start my business, I realized that whatever assumptions I had about what I will be offering as a product did not hold good anymore as the market had changed!
I took it as yet another challenge in the series of hurdles that I should be crossing before getting my business on track to profitability.
Looking back, it was my determination and conviction that helped me survive seemingly insurmountable odds.
Don’t let your dreams remain in the realm of fantasy. The only way to make the transition to becoming what I call the “Action Hero” is to start thinking through the details of what you want and knocking down incremental action items relentlessly.
I am by no means a successful entrepreneur yet and I know very well that I may fail. However, I am now living my dreams.
Are you a dreamer? Share your goals and outline your plan to make it a reality in the comments below.
